Radiant Barrier Installation in Sunnyvale, CA
Keep Your Attic as Cool as Possible
No More Outrageous Air Conditioning Costs

If your upstairs feels stuffy all summer or your AC runs nonstop but never quite cools the house, your attic could be the culprit. The roof absorbs sunlight throughout the day, and without protection, that heat radiates straight into your attic. From there, it filters down into your home, making your HVAC system work much harder than it should. In Sunnyvale, where warm, dry days are common from late spring through fall, this can be a real challenge.
EM Energy & Air installs radiant barriers to help Sunnyvale homeowners get control over attic temperatures and energy costs. This type of insulation add-on can make your attic 20 to 40 degrees cooler during hot months—and that can make a huge difference inside your home. If you’re interested in a free inspection and quote, we’d be happy to stop by and take a look.

I highly recommend EM Energy & Air!! We had them remove and replace our attic insulation, clean and sanitize our attic and install new insulation and a heat shield in our home. The crew was awesome. They laid down plastic for the pathway, and around the entire area where work was to be performed. It took about 5 hours and they were non-stop working to completion. We got a few quotes and were well worth our cost. Can’t say enough good things about the entire process, from initial meeting, quote to work completed!!

As a Professional Engineer and HVAC business owner, I can certainly recommend E&M. I pursued multiple bids and Eilon was by far the most knowledgeable, thorough and professional. His field team was courteous, worked neatly, and finished the project on time. We already notice that the HVAC system runs less and the house holds temperature better. Strong endorsement from me.

we are very pleased having hired EM Energy & Air trough Eilon to tackle our attic project. From scheduling an appointment to getting the job done all went smoothly and faster than we expected. After reaching out on Sunday our attic got renovated within 1 week time frame: removing the old insulation, clean up of the attic, installing a whole house fan, redoing the HVAC pipes and insulation. I am very pleased with work done and professionalism of the crew. They worked very clean and swiftly ( all work was done in 1 day).

I called up these folks initially to get an estimate to clean out my attic. They provided me the best bid I received in terms of details and price. After a candid conversation with Eilon, I decided to have EM energy and air also install new insulation and seal off my attic. The crew were very thorough in sealing off all the possible rodent entry points and did a great job with the cleaning. And the insulation came just in time for the heat wave. It made a 10 degree difference in the inside temperature of my home. Great experience, would highly recommend them.

Installing two heat pump with EM was a breeze; communication was very timely and the job was done well and as agreed. Quote process: They got me a fair quote same-day by just from sending them info over text (while other companies took weeks) and the price was fair. Change orders: I decided later I want two units, and again it was a smooth process. Also later there was an equipment change – and it made it convenient for me. Job Day: 4 guys arrived as agreed and get it done same day. I talked to most of them and all were polite, nice and upbeat. They let me inspect the work closely, made sure I am happy and give me tips on next steps. TLDR; Would hire them again and I am happy to recommend to my neighbors!

What Makes Radiant Barriers Different?
Unlike fiberglass or cellulose insulation that slows down heat transfer, a radiant barrier reflects heat before it ever enters the home. It’s usually made from a layer of reflective foil that bounces radiant energy away from the roof surface. Think of it like putting a sunshade in your car windshield—it doesn’t stop the heat completely, but it dramatically cuts down on how much heat builds up inside.
By reflecting solar radiation before it enters your attic, a radiant barrier acts as your first line of defense. This gives your insulation a break and reduces the burden on your cooling system. When combined with proper attic insulation and duct sealing, it contributes to a cooler, more energy-efficient home.
If your attic is already well-insulated but still uncomfortably hot in the summer, a radiant barrier could be the missing piece in your thermal protection strategy.
Choosing the Right System for Your Home
Every attic in Sunnyvale has its own configuration, and we’ll help you decide which radiant barrier setup makes the most sense for yours. During our free consultation, we assess the condition of your roof, insulation, ventilation, and attic layout before making a recommendation.
Traditional Foil Barriers
Foil-based radiant barriers are highly effective and work best in attics with accessible rafters. We typically attach the foil to the underside of roof framing or lay it over the attic floor, depending on your goals and access points. We use American-made materials from trusted brands like EcoFoil® and RadiantGUARD®, which offer dependable performance for many years.
Spray Coatings for Tight Spaces
Some attics are too compact or oddly shaped for foil rolls. In those cases, we might recommend a liquid radiant barrier that we apply with a specialized sprayer. One popular product is HeatBloc Ultra®, which forms a thin reflective coating on the underside of the roof. While the reflectivity is slightly lower than foil, it’s a practical solution for awkward spaces.
Radiant Sheathing for Roof Replacements
If you’re replacing your roof or building a new home, radiant barrier sheathing is worth considering. These roof panels come with foil pre-bonded to the wood and are installed during the construction phase. LP TechShield® and similar products allow you to build in radiant protection from day one.
When Is the Best Time to Install a Radiant Barrier?
Radiant barriers can be installed year-round, but many homeowners choose to do the work during spring or fall. These are ideal times because the attic isn’t as hot, and crews can work more comfortably and safely. It also positions your home to benefit fully during the next wave of summer heat.
That said, if your AC has been overworked this season or you’re tackling other energy upgrades now, there’s no wrong time to add a radiant barrier. We’re equipped to handle the job quickly, with most installations taking only a day.
We also offer radiant barrier installation as part of larger energy efficiency projects. If you’re getting new attic insulation, ductwork repairs, or HVAC upgrades, we can often bundle radiant barrier work into the same timeline and simplify the entire process.
Long-Term Benefits of Radiant Barrier Installation
Homeowners in Sunnyvale who add a radiant barrier often notice the benefits right away. Lower energy bills are one of the biggest changes—because less heat enters the home, your cooling system doesn’t have to run as frequently. Over time, this also leads to a longer HVAC lifespan. When your system isn’t under constant stress from battling attic heat, it experiences less wear and tear and is less likely to break down unexpectedly.
You’ll also notice more even temperatures throughout the house. Rooms on the second floor or those facing the afternoon sun stay cooler, even during heat waves. A radiant barrier also helps your existing insulation do a better job. By reducing the thermal load in the attic, you help preserve the insulation’s condition and effectiveness. Finally, radiant barriers can contribute to better air quality by limiting moisture buildup. Cooler attics are less likely to trap humidity, which means less chance of mold or mildew forming in poorly ventilated areas.
