Radiant Barrier Insulation in San Jose – Installation Contractors

When it’s warm outside, your roof absorbs radiant heat from the sun. Eventually, about half of the heat will transfer into your attic, and this incrementally raises the temperature in your house. You may notice your HVAC system working overtime in the summer, and your might be dealing with an unbelievably hot attic. You may be a good candidate for a radiant barrier.

We install radiant barrier insulation in San Jose, and we provide a full suite of HVAC services in San Jose as well. From installations to repair and ductwork, give us a call for a free estimate and inspection.

How Does a Radiant Barrier Work?

The radiant barrier is the first line of defense against heat, and attic insulation is the second. A radiant barrier is made of highly reflective material like aluminum foil, and it reflects the heat back towards its source. Unlike traditional insulation that slows the transfer of heat, a radiant barrier works to stop it at the source, keeping your attic significantly cooler. When combined with good insulation, you may experience dramatically lower energy bills.

Needless to say, the radiant barrier doesn’t replace the need for insulation, as they work together in helping maintain cool temperatures in the summer. The insulation is on its own when it comes to protecting you in the winter. While insulation is great for regulating the temperatures in the living space, a radiant barrier is the only thing that shields the attic space from the heat.

Types of Radiant Barrier Systems

We’ll speak with you about your options, and wee take budet and your home’s layout into consideration. The consultation and estimate is always free.

Foil-Based Radiant Barriers

Foil-based systems are some of the most common and effective options. They are made of a durable aluminum foil material, and we often install them under the roof decking or on top of existing attic insulation. Brands like RadiantGUARD® and EcoFoil® are some of our preferred American-made foil barriers.

Spray-On Radiant Barriers

HeatBloc Ultra® is an example of a spray-on coating that functions as a radiant barrier. This type of radiant barrier is applied directly to the underside of the roof using a specialized spray gun. While it may not reflect as much heat as foil, it provides a decent application that works well for hard-to-reach spaces.

Radiant Barrier Sheathing

If you’re building a new home or undergoing a major roof renovation, we should talk about sheathing. It’s made of plywood or OSB (oriented strand board) panels with a reflective layer of foil on one side. Brands like LP TechShield® make radiant barrier sheathing that can fit into the construction process, and this is a great and effective longterm way to reduce energy costs.
