I highly recommend EM Energy & Air!! We had them remove and replace our attic insulation, clean and sanitize our attic and install new insulation and a heat shield in our home. The crew was awesome. They laid down plastic for the pathway, and around the entire area where work was to be performed. It took about 5 hours and they were non-stop working to completion. We got a few quotes and were well worth our cost. Can’t say enough good things about the entire process, from initial meeting, quote to work completed!!

As a Professional Engineer and HVAC business owner, I can certainly recommend E&M. I pursued multiple bids and Eilon was by far the most knowledgeable, thorough and professional. His field team was courteous, worked neatly, and finished the project on time. We already notice that the HVAC system runs less and the house holds temperature better. Strong endorsement from me.

we are very pleased having hired EM Energy & Air trough Eilon to tackle our attic project. From scheduling an appointment to getting the job done all went smoothly and faster than we expected. After reaching out on Sunday our attic got renovated within 1 week time frame: removing the old insulation, clean up of the attic, installing a whole house fan, redoing the HVAC pipes and insulation. I am very pleased with work done and professionalism of the crew. They worked very clean and swiftly ( all work was done in 1 day).

I called up these folks initially to get an estimate to clean out my attic. They provided me the best bid I received in terms of details and price. After a candid conversation with Eilon, I decided to have EM energy and air also install new insulation and seal off my attic. The crew were very thorough in sealing off all the possible rodent entry points and did a great job with the cleaning. And the insulation came just in time for the heat wave. It made a 10 degree difference in the inside temperature of my home. Great experience, would highly recommend them.

Installing two heat pump with EM was a breeze; communication was very timely and the job was done well and as agreed. Quote process: They got me a fair quote same-day by just from sending them info over text (while other companies took weeks) and the price was fair. Change orders: I decided later I want two units, and again it was a smooth process. Also later there was an equipment change – and it made it convenient for me. Job Day: 4 guys arrived as agreed and get it done same day. I talked to most of them and all were polite, nice and upbeat. They let me inspect the work closely, made sure I am happy and give me tips on next steps. TLDR; Would hire them again and I am happy to recommend to my neighbors!

Is a Heat Pump the Right Choice for You?
Heat pumps have become an increasingly popular choice for San Jose homeowners, as they provide both heating and cooling in one efficient system. Unlike traditional systems that require separate units for heating and air conditioning, a heat pump uses refrigerant and a compressor to transfer heat between the indoors and outdoors. During colder months, a heat pump extracts heat from the outside air and moves it indoors. When the weather warms up, the process reverses, cooling your home by transferring warm air from indoors to the outside. This dual function is not only convenient but also highly efficient, helping you save on energy bills and reduce your environmental impact.
For moderate climates like San Jose, heat pumps offer a practical and economical solution. They’re especially appealing for homeowners looking to streamline their systems, as they eliminate the need for both a furnace and an air conditioner. If you’re looking for a flexible, efficient option for year-round comfort, a heat pump may be an ideal fit. Our team is here to discuss the specific needs of your home, recommend the best options, and walk you through each step of the installation process, so you feel confident in your choice.
A Few of Our Projects
The Best Local Heat Pump Repair in San Jose, CA
Like any mechanical system, heat pumps occasionally need repair to keep them operating efficiently. Common heat pump issues include broken parts, refrigerant leaks, frozen coils, compressor problems, and thermostat malfunctions. Each of these issues affects the system’s ability to maintain temperature and humidity, impacting comfort and potentially raising your energy bills.
A refrigerant leak, for example, causes a drop in the system’s cooling and heating power and may lead to more serious damage if left unaddressed. Frozen coils typically indicate airflow issues, which could stem from a clogged filter or a blower malfunction. Compressor issues, on the other hand, can lead to a total loss of function. Our technicians are trained to identify and resolve these issues quickly, restoring your heat pump’s efficiency and effectiveness. We use quality replacement parts and the latest diagnostic tools to ensure each repair meets our high standards. No matter the issue, we’re here to provide lasting solutions that keep your system running smoothly.
We Can Inspect Your Heat Pump and Provide a Recommendation
Routine inspections are one of the best ways to maintain the performance and longevity of your heat pump. Regular inspections allow us to catch potential problems early, saving you time and money on future repairs. During an inspection, our technicians check for signs of wear, test the refrigerant levels, assess the compressor and fan function, and verify the thermostat’s accuracy.
Our team provides honest feedback on the condition of your heat pump and offers recommendations tailored to your home’s needs. If repairs are needed, we discuss the options and costs openly, helping you make an informed decision. We prioritize energy efficiency and system longevity, and our goal is always to give you the best solution for comfortable living.
When a heat pump reaches the end of its lifespan, we can also recommend a new model and guide you through the replacement process. We know that each home has unique needs, and we’re committed to providing recommendations that make a positive difference in your energy usage and comfort.

More Information About Your New Heat Pump
Understanding SEER2 and HSPF2
Today’s heat pumps come with updated SEER2 (cooling) and HSPF2 (heating) efficiency ratings. These numbers reflect how much energy the system uses to provide the same level of comfort. For example, a SEER2 rating above 15 or an HSPF2 above 8.8 typically indicates a high-efficiency model. If your current system was installed more than a decade ago, it may fall short of these newer standards, leading to higher energy use and inconsistent indoor temperatures.
During our consultations, we walk through the ratings and explain what those numbers mean for your monthly energy bills. We also help you weigh the cost of a more efficient model against the long-term savings it provides.
Heat Pump vs Furnace and AC: A Local Perspective
Why Heat Pumps Make Sense in San Jose
In a climate like San Jose’s, a heat pump often makes more sense than having both a furnace and a central air conditioning unit. Our winter lows rarely dip below freezing, which means a heat pump can easily handle the heating load without needing backup heat strips or a secondary gas furnace. The result is a quieter, simpler, and often cheaper way to manage home comfort throughout the year.
We often recommend heat pumps for homeowners switching from older gas furnaces or outdated air conditioning systems, especially if the home already has decent insulation and minimal duct leakage.
How EM Energy & Air Helps With Rebates
Helping You Maximize Local and Federal Incentives
The Inflation Reduction Act, along with state and utility programs in California, offers significant rebates for heat pump upgrades. Some homeowners in San Jose may qualify for thousands of dollars in incentives—especially if switching from a natural gas furnace. We help identify which programs you’re eligible for, assist with the paperwork, and work those savings into the quote when possible.
This is just another way we reduce the financial barrier to upgrading your HVAC system.
Heat Pump FAQs
What’s the typical lifespan of a heat pump in San Jose?
Most heat pumps last between 12 and 17 years in the Bay Area, depending on the brand, maintenance routine, and how well the system was installed. Because our climate is mild, local systems often avoid the extreme strain seen in other parts of the country. Regular inspections and timely repairs can extend the life of your heat pump by several years.
Do heat pumps work well in cooler months?
Yes, modern heat pumps are designed to work efficiently even when temperatures dip into the 30s and 40s. In San Jose’s temperate winters, heat pumps have no trouble maintaining indoor comfort without a backup heating source. We install models designed specifically for mild to moderate climates, where they operate at peak efficiency.
How noisy are heat pumps compared to other systems?
High-quality heat pumps tend to be quieter than traditional HVAC systems. Brands like Carrier and Lennox manufacture variable-speed compressors and insulated cabinets that reduce vibration and sound. Most systems operate at a hum no louder than a conversation. If your current system is disruptive, we can recommend models designed for quiet performance.
What is the SEER2 rating, and why does it matter?
SEER2 (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio 2) reflects how efficiently a heat pump cools your home. The higher the number, the less energy the unit uses. Many new systems start at SEER2 15, which is significantly more efficient than older units. During your quote, we’ll walk you through efficiency tiers and the potential cost savings of upgrading.
Can I switch from a gas furnace to a heat pump?
Yes. Many San Jose homeowners are replacing older gas furnaces with electric heat pumps to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and qualify for energy rebates. We’ll inspect your home’s ductwork, electrical system, and insulation to determine if a full switch makes sense. If upgrades are needed, we’ll include them in your quote.
What are common signs my heat pump needs repair?
Some of the most common signs include reduced airflow, odd smells, loud noises, or uneven temperatures throughout the home. You might also notice your system running constantly or failing to maintain your desired temperature. If you see a sudden spike in your utility bills, it’s worth scheduling a professional inspection.
Do you install ductless mini split heat pumps?
We do. Ductless systems are perfect for garages, in-law suites, sunrooms, or homes without existing ductwork. These systems offer zoned control, which allows you to heat or cool specific areas without impacting the entire home. We’ll help you decide how many indoor heads you need and recommend the best configuration.
How often should I schedule maintenance for my heat pump?
We recommend having your heat pump inspected once a year, ideally before the heating or cooling season begins. During a tune-up, we check refrigerant levels, test the thermostat, clean the coils, and inspect the blower components. Regular maintenance keeps your system efficient and reduces the risk of sudden breakdowns.
What brands do you install?
We install heat pumps from trusted American brands like Carrier, Lennox, and Trane. These manufacturers offer reliable, energy-efficient systems that come with strong factory warranties. We choose each unit based on your home’s size, duct layout, energy goals, and budget.
Are there financing options for a new heat pump?
Yes, we offer free financing on most heat pump installations for qualified homeowners. Many programs include zero-interest options, and we can walk you through the approval process during your inspection. Financing allows you to upgrade your comfort system without paying everything upfront.
