Why Heat Builds Up in the Attic
Attics trap rising air, especially when insulation is missing or compressed. During warm days, the heat builds up and pushes down into the living space. In cooler weather, heat escapes right through the ceiling. This constant imbalance makes it harder for your HVAC system to do its job. What Happens to Old Insulation?

Blown-in fiberglass is a good choice when coverage is the priority. It fills in gaps and creates a thermal blanket across the entire attic floor. Fiberglass batts work well when the space is open and easy to access. They’re cut to fit between joists and often used during remodeling projects.
Cellulose insulation, on the other hand, is made from recycled paper products and treated for fire resistance. It helps seal air gaps and can be a smart upgrade in older homes that need better airflow control. Another option is mineral wool. It’s heavier than fiberglass and offers extra resistance to fire and sound. It’s sometimes chosen for attics in homes near busy streets or close to commercial buildings.
